SUMMARY:CDC Second Forestry Friday Walk - REVISED
DESCRIPTION:Tyler Levy from the Region 4 Forestry Division will be leading us on the walk. We will be looking at 5 sites at Harvey Mountain\, and a majority of the walk will be on maintained trails with a couple small deviations along skid roads to show management areas. The estimated mileage for the walk is 1.6 miles with approximately 120 feet of elevation gain.  \n We will be looking at a variety of treatments including\, patch overstory removals\, commercial thinning\, a maple shelterwood\, and a clearcut that occurred approximately 15+ years ago. I attached a map showing parking location\, trails\, and the sites we will be visiting.  \nParking will be off East Hill Road and Bald Mountain Road. I’m attaching a screenshot showing the parking location and GPS coordinates. The best way to get there is to take NY Route 22 to East Hill Road. When you turn onto Bald Mountain Road\, parking will be directly on the left. Signage is good\, so I don’t anticipate any issues with folks finding the parking area. We will post NYFOA signs up to help. There is additional parking across the road on East Hill Road and any overflow can park at the campsite across the way or along Bald Mountain Road.  \n Attached are photos of the area – turn off East Hill to Bald Mountain Road looks like and also the addition parking lot to assist you. Lite refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you on August 28th at 8:30 AM. The walk will kick off at 9:00. RSVP Carol McDonald  – Happyinthehollow@gmail.com. You can reach Carol by phone 518-605-0639 if you have questions about this  event \n\n\nPreview attachment c9410baa-0baa-4f64-9878-3920513d58cc.pngPreview attachment c9410baa-0baa-4f64-9878-3920513d58cc.png \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\nc9410baa-0baa-4f64-9878-3920513d58cc.png\n525 KB\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\nPreview attachment image001 (1).pngPreview attachment image001 (1).png \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\nimage001 (1).png\n576 KB\n\n \n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPreview attachment Harvey Mountain WW Aug 28 (1).pdf Preview attachment Harvey Mountain WW Aug 28 (1).pdf \n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\nHarvey Mountain WW Aug 28 (1).pdf\n1.8 MB

SUMMARY:NAC Final Woodswalk - 2026
DESCRIPTION:We have an exceptional event in store for you on Saturday August 29\, 2026. The\nNew York Forest Owners Association’s Northern Adirondack Chapter announces\nits final Woodswalk of the season\, to be held at 301 Chipman Corners Rd\, Lisbon\nNY 13658 commencing at 9:00 am. Our host Dan Rutherford is very active in his\nforest and is the face of a multi-generational effort involving his father\, siblings\nand many other family members\, who collectively own over 400 acres. There is a\nlong history of silvicultural work\, which continues today with Dan’s participation\nin grant opportunities. The family has undertaken planting several different tree\nspecies and Dan continues to operate a Bandsaw mill to market forest products\nfrom the property. We will make a stop at the mill to get a real time view of the\nmill in operation. Dan will also highlight the history and current state of the maple\noperation\, which is a blend of modern practices and some old school tried and\ntrue methods. Finally\, he will also discuss efforts to manage the deer herd by\nleasing a family-built cabin to an out-of-the-area hunt club and his lease\narrangements with local farmers to offset property taxes.\nThere will be a significant bit of walking involved in this event; however\, the\nterrain is very friendly with little elevation change. We will break at midday for a\nbrown bag lunch. Please note\, there are bathroom facilities available at one stop.\nDoor prizes will be awarded at days end. Pre-register by text message Scott\nBonno at 315-854-7788 or by email glenmeal@yahoo.com by July 23\, 2026.
