CDC Second Forestry Friday Walk – REVISED

Tyler Levy from the Region 4 Forestry Division will be leading us on the walk. We will be looking at 5 sites at Harvey Mountain, and a majority of the walk will be on maintained trails with a couple small deviations along skid roads to show management areas. The estimated mileage for the walk is 1.6 miles with approximately 120 feet of elevation gain.
We will be looking at a variety of treatments including, patch overstory removals, commercial thinning, a maple shelterwood, and a clearcut that occurred approximately 15+ years ago. I attached a map showing parking location, trails, and the sites we will be visiting.
Parking will be off East Hill Road and Bald Mountain Road. I’m attaching a screenshot showing the parking location and GPS coordinates. The best way to get there is to take NY Route 22 to East Hill Road. When you turn onto Bald Mountain Road, parking will be directly on the left. Signage is good, so I don’t anticipate any issues with folks finding the parking area. We will post NYFOA signs up to help. There is additional parking across the road on East Hill Road and any overflow can park at the campsite across the way or along Bald Mountain Road.
Attached are photos of the area – turn off East Hill to Bald Mountain Road looks like and also the addition parking lot to assist you. Lite refreshments will be served. We look forward to seeing you on August 28th at 8:30 AM. The walk will kick off at 9:00. RSVP Carol McDonald – Happyinthehollow@gmail.com.
