Got Woods?Come see how you can improve the health, wildlife habitat and your enjoyment of your woods. Join us for our annual spring woods walk! Del Allen and his family and the Yates County Master Forest Owners invite the public to a free educational tour of Del’s private forest. Representatives from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Future Forest Consulting, Inc., and Yates County Cornell Cooperative Extension will help facilitate discussion.Del will share information about steps he’s taken to benefit the health of his forest as well as special projects such as forest mushroom cultivation. Nichelle Allen, a high school science teacher who recently attended a raptor training at the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, PA, will share information about bird watching and bird boxes and feeders. Del hosted a woods walk three years ago just prior to having a timber harvest on his property, and we’ll observe the forest health benefits visible in just three years! We will also highlight a project intended to promote forest regeneration by excluding deer with user-friendly fencing. Please wear comfortable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.

This event is free but please register in advance: Emily Staychock: ecs268@cornell.edu; 315-536-5123 x4127.
